The United States of America, especially Washington, DC area is very cosmopolitan, with people from almost every nation in the world. Most of these international communities have their own television programs that promote their nation, culture and report the news of their country. However, until 1997 there was no Nepali television program in abroad.
As we all know, Nepal is a small country, not very many people in the worlds know about Nepal. Many people think that Nepal is a part of India; they also think that the Mt. Everest is in India/China and the Lord Buddha was born in India as well. In fact, the Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal and the Mt. Everest is in Nepal, which is why Nepal is known as the rooftop of the world.
By then all people from Nepal who were living in America have had almost no way of keeping informed about current events and happening in Nepal and in the Nepali community. It is for these reasons I began producing and airing Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) television program in July of 1997 for the first time in America "Sagarmatha Television", from the nation’s capital of the United States of America, Washington, D. C., the most powerful nation in the world, which is the "The first Nepali television program ever produced and broadcast outside of Nepal, in the Nepalese History".
The goals of Sagarmatha Television are numerous:
- To introduce Nepal and Nepali culture to the world
- To promote Nepal & Nepalese culture and the attractions of Nepal to foreigners; motivate them to visit Nepal.
- To provide information on what is happening in Nepal to the Nepali community to maintain our community's ties with our homeland and keep our culture alive in our memory.
- To keep the Nepali community informed about various event that are taking place within the Nepalese community in America and around the world.
