NRN National Coordinating Council of US presents a Memorandum for Dual Citizenship
A delegation of NRN National Coordination Council of USA led by its media coordinator Mr. Ram C. Kharel went to Nepali Embassy in Washington DC (USA) to submit a memorandum for the demand of dual citizenship for Nepalis. Vice President of NRN NCC Mr. Homraj Acharya explained the purpose of delegation to HE Ambassador Dr. Shankar P. Sharma.
The memorandum was signed by its President Mr. Suman R. Timsina. Memorandum is addressed to Speaker Hon. Speaker Subhas C. Nemwang and copies for Hon PM Madhav K Nepal, Hon Chairman of Constitution Committee Mr. Nilambar Acharya and Hon Chairperson of Fundamental Right Directive Principle Committee Binda Pandey were also handed over to Ambassador Sharma. The delegation included 14 people. In addition to the ambassador, other staff of embassy including Dy Chief of Mission Mr. Kali P. Pokhrel, Military Attache, First Secretary, Second Secretary and other were also present. Ambassador Dr. Sharma assured to forward this memorandum to Nepal immediately.
Non Resident Nepalis Association has been advocating for dual citizenship and currently they have taken up a campaign to visit embassies through more than 50 National Coordination Councils of NRN worldwide and hand over a memorandum to the Nepali ambassadors in those countries. NRN National Coordination Council of USA has planned a similar event to hand over another memorandum to Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations at New York on December 31, 2009.
